This week, we worked on finishing the first draft of our persuasive essay. We also edited, revised as needed, self-evaluated, and self-scored our essays.
This week, we finished watching the film versions of our novels, Fahrenheit 451 and The Red Badge of Courage. We compared and contrasted the movies with the books, noting how movies rarely can act as the substitute for reading novels. We also finished notes on pronoun-antecedent agreement and practiced this grammar skill. Lastly, we practiced persuasion this week as well, learning how to make an argument, a counterargument, and a rebuttal. Given a choice of EOC Writing SOL prompts, we wrote persuasive essays.
This week, we finished reading our novels, Fahrenheit 451 and The Red Badge of Courage. Students took the final test on the novels. Additionally, we worked on editing sentences for proper grammar and taking notes on pronoun antecedent agreement. At the end of the week, we watched the film versions of our novels, completing a compare/contrast analysis sheet.
This week, we continued reading the last third of our novels. We worked on tone and mood analysis this week, as well as as analyzing symbolism in the novels. We also completed storyboards for a portion of the novel read independently.
